What The Heck Is “Blog Copywriting?”
(And why it’s not just blogging.)You’ve heard of blogging. And you’ve probably heard of copywriting.
But blog copywriting?
It’s one of those phrases that sounds like it should make sense, but also kind of makes you tilt your head a little.
Because at first glance, they feel like the same thing, right?
Writing is writing.
(…not quite.)
When Blogging Started Feeling Like “Just Content”
Somewhere along the way, blogging got a little… boxed in.
It started to become either a personal diary (and a throwback to Geocities) or a keyword machine. Post more content! Be more consistent! Throw every keyword on the wall and see what sticks!
And it slowly turned into that quiet corner of your website that may or may not actually be doing anything for you.
You know the one. The one with two or three posts sitting there… waiting.
(we do not make contact with the blog tab)
This isn’t because blogging doesn’t work. It’s because the way it’s often approached doesn’t.
What Blogging Is (And Isn’t)
At its core, blogging is long-form content published on your website.
It gives you the kind of space we don’t really get anywhere else online anymore. Which is actually really awesome — we can fully explain ideas, share stories that don’t fit into captions… explore nuance in a way that short-form content just can’t hold.
It lets you think out loud in a way that invites your reader in.
And that is what makes it so valuable.
What isn’t talked about enough, though, is that just having a blog doesn’t automatically build trust. It doesn’t automatically guide someone toward your services, and it doesn’t automatically support your business.
You can write thoughtful, insightful, beautifully written posts and still find yourself wondering:
Why isn’t anything happening?
Why aren’t inquiries increasing?
Why does this feel like it’s just… sitting there?
(Ask me how I know… and how many abandoned drafts were involved.)
That doesn’t mean blogging doesn’t work.
It does mean blogging without intention can start to feel like a lot of effort without much return.
And that’s usually where people either burn out… or quietly step away from it altogether.
What Copywriting Actually Is (Beyond Sales Pages)
When most people hear “copywriting,” they picture loud sales pages… big promises… countdown timers. Buy now! Get it while it lasts! Only one more spot (when there’s actually 20)!
But that’s only one small slice of it.
Copywriting, at its core, is intentional writing.
Not loud, not pushy. Intentional. And it pays attention.
It’s writing that knows where it’s going and gently helps your reader get there too.
It notices what your reader might be thinking but hasn’t quite said out loud yet. It anticipates the right questions and answers them before they’re a fully formed thought in the reader’s mind.
It builds that feeling of “oh she totally gets me.”
And most importantly: it creates momentum.
Not in a rushed or overwhelming way, but grounded + natural in a way that helps someone feel ready instead of pushed.
So actually, copywriting isn’t just about selling.
It’s about guiding.
What Is Blog Copywriting?
So what is blog copywriting, really?
In short: it’s long-form content that connects and guides.
Blog copywriting isn’t just about sharing ideas or “adding value.” It’s about shaping your ideas in a way that helps someone move.
It gives your reader space to think while also helping them move forward — not in a pushy way, but in a quietly powerful way where someone finishes reading and thinks “Oh wow. That actually helped.”
Which means when someone lands on your blog, they’re not just learning something new, they’re connecting the dots between where they are + what they might need next.
Blog copywriting says “here’s what’s actually going on, here’s why it matters, and here’s what to do with it.”
It blends the depth of blogging: room to explore, explain, and connect…
With the intention of copywriting: structure, direction, and movement.
So it informs… and it also supports decision making. It builds trust while also building direction. It explores ideas while gently pointing somewhere meaningful.
It’s not about turning your blog into one long sales pitch — it’s about making sure your words are doing more than just existing on a page.
It’s creating content that earns trust while someone is reading, builds familiarity with how you think, and helps people recognize themselves in your work so that by the time they reach out…
They’re not starting from zero.
They already feel like they understand you. And they feel like you understand them.
Then that “should I?” question?
It’s already been answered.
The Real Difference (Side by Side)
Sometimes the easiest way to feel the difference is to see it side by side.
A traditional-style blog post might:
share five helpful tips
offer insight
end with “Hope this helps!”
There’s nothing wrong with that.
But a blog written with copy in mind might:
share those same five tips
reframe a belief the reader didn’t realize was holding them back
address a hesitation they might have about taking action
gently point toward a next step that feels aligned
Same topic, length, and value, but a very different experience for the person reading it.
(I break it down more here → Why Most Business Blogs Fail (And What To Do Instead))
Blog writing can educate.
Blog copywriting educates and positions you.
Blog writing can inform.
Blog copywriting informs and builds trust in your approach.
Over time that starts making a huge difference in your posts… and how they work for you.
Why This Matters (Especially for Heart-Led Businesses)
If you care more about depth than trending dances…
Want your marketing to feel thoughtful instead of rushed…
Or ever thought “there has to be a better way to do this…”
This is where blog copywriting starts to matter.
Because quietly powerful businesses don’t rely on constant output.
They rely on the emotional connection — the validation, the resonance, and what really matters to their audience.
One strong, intentional blog post can:
answer a question someone has been circling for months
put words to something they’ve been feeling but couldn’t explain
show them how you think and how you solve problems
make working with you feel like the obvious next step
It’s not about doing more… it’s about doing things with care.
Blog Copywriting Isn’t Louder. It’s Smarter.
You don’t need to publish more, chase trends, or hop on the hamster wheel of “be more consistent with your content or else….”
Because honestly, that approach is exhausting. For a lot of folks, that’s the exact reason their blog ends up abandoned in the first place.
What you need is content that actually works.
And what works (harder, better, faster, stronger… thank you, Daft Punk) is content that reflects your voice, aligns with your values, builds trust, and supports your offers + services in a natural way.
Quietly powerful content that does its job even when you’re not actively “marketing.”
Because truly, if your blog tab is going to exist… it should be doing way more than just existing.
It should be earning Employee of the Year… every year…without even trying.
If Blogging Has Felt Heavier Than It Should
You know that feeling when something you wrote is really good… but then it just kind of sits there?
Like you know there’s something there, it just never turns into anything more?
It’s usually not a writing problem. It’s a direction problem.
Because when your content is rooted in — when it’s shaped to not just share ideas, but actually support your reader — your blog stops feeling like something you should be doing and becomes something that actually supports you.
This is the difference between having a blog, and having one that actually does something.
And if you’d rather step on a zillion Legos barefoot than figure it all out yourself… that’s exactly what I build inside my Blog Library Services.
